About the role:

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a newly qualified accountant to join a FTSE 100 business in North Yorkshire.  The business is going through exciting times with an investment of £100m recently announced to transform its customer proposition.

Reporting to the Assistant Finance Manager, the role (from which the current Assistant Finance Manager and Finance Manager progressed) is to operate the compliance function for Wolseley UK and subsidiaries.  There are exciting opportunities in Treasury process and working alongside the operational business in financial control compliance. 

This role would be an ideal first move out of small practice and would suit a newly qualified or part qualified graduate. This role will have regular interaction with the plc team, subsidiaries, branches, project teams and Business Partners offering wide scope for business interaction.


Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in the production and review of Financial Control’s reporting and testing including scope reviews, walk throughs and documentation.
  • Proactively liaise with Internal Audit and Group Controls on control gaps and remediation.
  • Assisting the AFM in managing and coordinating a motivated Treasury team.
  • Managing Treasury / IT projects i.e. card acquirer replacement, integration of new banking platform etc.
  • Define WUK Treasury policies and procedures, ensuring continuing compliance by the UK business cluster.
  • Manage external relationship with primary bank.
  • Ensuring forecasting and cash management ability for UK and subsidiaries.
  • Preparation and review of half year/year end notes for Group Reporting.
  • Set, review and monitor CHAPS, BACS and authorisation list/process.
  • Review of balance sheet reconciliations. 
  • Other ad-hoc projects as required.

You will have:

  • Has a good understanding of a strong control environment and consistently aims for improvement.
  • Experience in audit.
  • Able to build and maintain effective working relationships quickly and effectively with colleagues.  Seeks and develops new relationships that will support the Team.
  • Appreciates risk and able to liaise with third parties (internal or external) where appropriate.
  • Diligent. Has good attention to detail. 
  • Able to respond to business changes from a Compliance perspective.  Proactive and demonstrates initiative.
  • Able to communicate clearly and appropriately to a wide variety of audiences (in all formats).
  • Can work independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexible, able to consistently meet deadlines / consistently motivated and focused on delivery.
  • Good technical skills.
  • Ideally fully qualified ACA or ACCA.
