About the role:

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a newly qualified/part qualified accountant to join a FTSE 100 business in North Yorkshire. The business is going through exciting times with an investment of £100m recently announced to transform its customer proposition.

Reporting to the Assistant Finance Manager, the role is to operate the compliance function for Wolseley UK and subsidiaries, in particular taking responsibility for general tax compliance and statutory accounts. There are exciting opportunities in a wide variety of tax and compliance processes, working closely with the operational business to ensure financial control compliance. 

This role would be an ideal first move out of small practice and would suit a newly qualified or part qualified graduate. This role will have regular interaction with the plc team, subsidiaries, branches, project teams and Business Partners offering wide scope for business interaction.


You will be responsible for:

  • The production of UK deconsolidated, other subsidiary and dormant accounts.
  • Own, summarise and carry out initial review of UK litigation report.
  • Pro actively co ordinate National Statistics returns prior to HMRC deadline.
  • Produce excellent quality VAT advice to business/branches, consulting third parties where appropriate.
  • Take responsibility for the preparation and review of UK and subsidiary VAT returns.
  • Assist with the production of the UK insurance renewal.
  • Take responsibility for the production of Corporation Tax and Deferred Tax calculations.
  • Pro active and timely response to tender information requests from business.
  • Pro actively liaise with other Departments in performance of other Compliance work eg PAYE/NI Compliance.
  • Review of Compliance balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Production of Compliance sections of UK Tour Report.  
  • Web form statutory disclosure and reporting.
  • Management of team.

You will have:

  • Strong technical skills including basic tax knowledge.
  • Previous Statuary accounts experience
  • Ideally ACA/ACCA Qualified
  • Proactive / demonstrates initiative. 
  • Able to build and maintain effective working relationships quickly and effectively with colleagues.  Seeks and develops new relationships that will support the Team.
  • Objective, maintains unbiased approach and displays integrity at all times.
  • Diligent. Has good attention to detail. 
  • Good communicator (both written and in verbal form to a wide variety of audiences including those at the highest level).  Can adapt style to suit situations.
  • Flexible, able to consistently meet deadlines / consistently motivated and focused on delivery.
  • Can work pro actively, either independently or as part of a team.
  • Provides appropriate solutions to problems.  Proven experience of decision making.
  • Experience of managing/supervising staff would be desirable not essential.
